Crime and Media

It is often thought that the increase in juvenile crime can be attributed to violence in the media.

Do you agree that this is the main cause of juvenile crime.

What solutions can you offer to deal with this situation.

Tv and other media censorship ratings are usually being advertised at the start of every show. The purpose is to inform the audience of the perceivable content of a media that would be seen by an exclusive or diverse group of people. Ratings range from General to Double X-rated. Most often these ratings are being ignored due to the fact that media screening is already loosely executed by authorities and also because of plain complacency. Many Red coloureds rated media are easily accessible to all ages. Even social medias are accepting identity information without verification of authenticity therefore, all medias associated to adult age is being accessed by could be, a younger generation.

This is the ultimate issue that causes immature perceivability of adult-content media leading to superficial comprehension and wrong influence to the youth. They said children at the beginning of their social exploration, copies or mimics the acts of adults. A media containing themes that are not suited to their age may result to decision and action that are MORALLY INAPPROPRIATE.

Morals are virtues that are incorporated to divine laws and philosophies but the most basic and the greatest foundation is what the family, which includes the parents teaches to their children. What they value as a family. For the Catholics, the very most basis of morality is the 10 commandments. 5th law, thou shall not kill. A child who has watched a film that shows killing can easily copy what the acting killer did. Seeing a violent film that uses profane languages and shows people hurting each other may teach the children to use the same language and practice the hurtful act of those actors. Confucianism said that You should not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you. If an adult does something that hurts a child even though he doesn’t want it to be done to him, then on another situation, that child may do the same reciprocally. He can hurt someone. Humans are higher than animals because they can think. Children can think but their comprehension as well as their sense of morality is still on the process of growing to maturity. They just copy until they understand, until they found their reasons until they know who they are in this society.

Is it media that shapes a person’s moral? The only factor that nurtures one’s belief and morality? Censoring and Guidance is expected during screening only? No. It’s the whole community. Daily. Until death for some. One’s perception of what is good and right depends on his family, neighbours, teachers, classmates, workmates and peers. Guidance and teaching are required not only during movie or tv hours every time, in all places, by every adult, to every kids around them.

When one child commits a crime, it is not solely because of what they see and hear from the screen. It is mainly because of what they saw and heard from adults that speak and act around them. For the eyes of every child, we adults should be responsible for our every act. We are also entertaining for some kids, like those pretty actors that they like and follow in all medias accessible.

Crime and Convicts

Many criminals commit further crimes as soon as they released from prison.

What do you think are the causes of this?

I believe that our justice system is following a process that aims to be fair at all times. In every criminal case, a suspect is given a chance to be on trial, to exercise his right to defend himself and introduced himself to the people who were known to be educated, just and rightful in the community. This would give the witnesses as well as the audience a full picture not only of the crime itself but also of the person being broiled on the stand. Despite the opportunity to litigate, if a suspect is proven guilty then the criminal is not only decided to be wrongful due to the crime committed but also because he was seen to be of a loose value citizen in the society. I believe that when we weigh people and consequences, it is impossible that we won’t look beyond the situation of the crime. Hence, you don’t prosecute them because he is a suspected criminal but also because he was deemed to be immoral.

Based on that idea, we can say that the stigma of being criminal will not stop at the end term of his imprisonment. A single illegal act can be a haphazard mistake and so, as a response to humanity, criminals are given the chance to repent and redeem themselves inside prison. No one is assured of how that person will process and accept the designed treatment for transition that they will receive, we just need to believe and trust.

Observing their behaviours, disciplining their actions, teaching them, educating them, empowering them spiritually and monitoring their daily lives will give the authority the opportunity to make an analyzation of the criminal’s personality ergo, we can predict their action and anticipate their probable decisions in life. This will protect not only the people around him but also the criminal himself. If a prisoner is released in prison, then it means he had been obedient and good inside. This is a primary step to the change that was expected of him. He is given a new life; he should start with us giving him the highest HOPE: to be rightful and make his life better in a normal society BUT we can’t be complacent. We should still not forget what happened and give room for doubts for reasons that I have mentioned earlier. He can repeat the crime, do another crime, be a conspiracy to a new crime or be a renewed and productive person in the society.

Fairness would come in continuous social monitoring. Reporting to authority, being part of a group or community that can either be civic or religious and doing regular social service as a proof of transformation should be done by the former criminal as enforced by the authority. Remember, in the absence of need for criminal law, social law always exists. With or without a pre-existing crime record, even with the person holding the highest revered value, at unacceptable circumstances, anyone can potentially commit a crime. We should at all times be cautious and keep everyone guided.

Crime and Technology

The crime rate nowadays is decreasing compared to the past due to advance technology which can prevent and solve crime.

Do you agree or disagree?

Creating and managing hardware and software for data and establishment security seems to be the current league offered to students who are inclined to work in the field of computer technology.

This field requires skills related to Computer programming and jailbreaking for data security and Computer engineering to create and manage wares for surveillance and lock system for establishment security.  Such development in the field of science and technology help authorities protect the safety of the people within their area of responsibility.

I can still remember more than 20 years ago, there has been a rampant case of family massacre in the Philippines, most instances were accounted to robbery. A local production company even highlighted these phenomena and reenacted most of these popular cases in films. If I am not mistaken, it was kidnapping and Pedophile in America, around late 90’s maybe, a crime also brought about by technology. Rescue 911 has also featured some criminal cases that has been called to their station. These scenarios can show the status and limits of technology when it comes to security and communication during that time.

Today, with the help of tech savvy people who are continuously studying and developing technology to invent products for protection and security, based on the current trends in news, I can assume that crime rate has been decreased if not eliminated in most urban and suburban places in this country. Most buildings and houses have CCTV cameras installed for surveillance. There is also progressive modernization of lock and alarm systems as protection to burglary. They also do firewalls and jailbreaking programs to guard confidential data and properties. Satellites and radars are also enhanced to track communications that might signal threat to the safety of people. Technology has helped us monitor and anticipate the acts of potential criminals; hence, most crimes have been avoided.

Modernization of Science has shown us its massive role in protecting people. We have seen how powerful they can be with our trusted authorities but like any other developing sector, eliminating crime is still a bit far from coming into fruitrution. War is a crime. It destroys properties, people and humanity. Sadly, it is still brought about by technology. For this reason, I guess, the trend just changes. Concentration and type of crime transfer to other places. Today, here in my country, I am protected by technology but for others its different. In the Philippines, crime has decreased and I as a Filipino is thankful to what science and technology has given me as far as safety and security is concern. I can’t say the same for countries that are still experiencing war.

I hope technology can do more for those who are still experiencing usual and continuous crime and for the students, I hope they can do more for the future so we can eliminate more crime and avoid other crimes to happen again.

Business and Salaries

In some countries, a few people earn extremely high salaries. Some people think that this good for a country, while others believe that the government should control salaries and limit the amount people can earn

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Salaries are regularized by the government, not controlled. Not unless the country is governed by a monarchy who supports a communist economy. If that is the case, I believe that the issue or changes of salary distribution is limited to the decision of a traditionally represented community.

In a communist country, most of the citizen have lived with their government’s policy for decades or probably even centuries. Their economy is stable, slow moving and predictable. Salaries are usually similar to a certain type of citizen or family.  It means that people lived in contentment in a country without much change (including progress) for a long time. If a need arises, it means all sectors of the state also need to move. It can be in relation to the world’s economy, geographic borders or atmospheric changes. A good government would anticipate that inflation is possible, hence all needs will be addressed to keep the citizen’s satisfaction.

Satisfaction rate or contentment of people. That is the most important parameter for government and private sectors to know if they are giving appropriate compensation to their workers. Do they need to compare themselves with incomes or economy abroad? If you are into international trade yes, but a normal person need not to compare their earnings with workers in other countries. What they only need to know as well as their government is if their earnings can address their basic expenses as well as their culturally normal purchases.

Most republican countries have fast and progressive capitalist economy. This can be attributed to investors that are usually foreign. It means that a company not only gets the financial but also the culture and economy of the investing international. In this type though, financial growth varies. Some private companies earn more, some maintain their status and some dwindles to bankruptcy. Giving more is most often attributed to the generosity of the company based on their well-thought policies and earnings. To be fair, the government create laws that regulates the wages of the people. They always declare the minimum salary for each particular economic sector. They also require allotment of budget for other basic needs of workers like health and retirement compensation. The government also helps by regulating the prices of consumables and utilities. All possible reason for inflation is directly monitored. Anticipative planning is often done. Summing all of this would tell that a government is doing all it’s best to keep the satisfaction rate of people in a stable and financially surviving status.

Comparing amount is already irrelevant, generally. If there are isolated incidences where people aren’t contented, it can be due to other reasons that are not monetary, it means solutions can be given by other sector of the society not the economy of the country or the salaries that their companies are giving.

Arts and Museum

Many people think that museums and galleries should only work from local artists rather than work from other countries. Do you agree?

Travelling is probably one of the most unforgettable moments in a person’s life. It can be done locally or internationally. And what is travelling without a visit to a museum?

Museum is a place of shelter for valuable art pieces such as paintings, sculptures, scriptures, artifacts and others. Each museum represents a history of a nation, an era or a generation, a group of artists or a particular field of knowledge. Therefore, we visit these places depending on our need, personal interest and sometimes duty. For example, if you are an art student and you want to see works of different classic foreign artist you might think of Louvre or Picasso’s Museum. Varied works with plenty of contributors will widen your knowledge and enrich your experience as an artist and as a student. If you are a travelling artist who wants to be known and build network for you to feature your works and eventually sell them, you might want to visit galleries in malls and other commercial establishments. It can be with a new local circle where you can find your identity as an artist or with the foreigners where your works can have the opportunity to be recognized. If you have a child who is an aspiring astronaut or scientist, you would probably bring him to a Science Museum where you can find the origin and the latest discoveries in science with materials considered as art from your country and other countries like Russia, China, Germany and others. If you are visiting a new country or a town and wants to know the culture of the locals, then you might want to go to the their most known museum of history that would certainly feature local art pieces.

New and local artists have the right to be acknowledged and discovered in this vast field of Artistry in their hometown by their own people and by foreign visitors. If they want to form a circle where the only members are recruited locally, then they can build a museum intended for their PURPOSE. They need to remember that each museum has a purpose. And those purposes are often different and varied to address the wants and needs of the artists as well as the visiting locals and travellers. There are museums that are purposively intended for foreign art pieces and like the local artist circle, they are also important and valued.

People travel for different reasons and it is comforting to know that a museum that will complete their journey is readily waiting to be discovered.

Arts and Funds

Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere.

To what extent do you agree with this view?

Art is a representation of a culture, a group and a nation. Allotting a “reasonable” or should we say, compassionate, not massive fund for programmes related to it is considered a responsibility not only of the government but each and everyone in the society.

There are different kinds of art. There is visual, performing (spatial), written and music (auditory) art. Each one tells a story inspired by history, by our everyday experience and our dreams and aspirations for the future. Art shows how we dress, how we speak, and how we interact with each other; how a certain group views beauty, religion, their values, traditions and practices. Art speaks of how humans work to improve themselves and their way of living. Art gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and to understand others. It opens our minds, enriches our knowledge and widens our experience. In art, you can see growth and a humble look at its simplest start. Art chronicles our life, our existence and our identity as a nation and as a human being.

Given all the reasons and definitions expressed above, we can all consider that ART is a very valuable entity of our culture that we should all preserve and develop to connect people and generations. Hence, this is one of the top responsibilities of our government: Ensuring that we continue the practice of making art and pass it on to our children and our children’s children.

Maybe, it doesn’t cost much to keep art alive, but it helps if we will also keep hopeful hearts alive to continue doing art. I guess, this is where more funds would be required. If not possible, we can add some kindness to give in kind. Challenge to a strong and wise government: Count how much fund your country has and how much fund you would invest to Arts. Artists are creative and there are so many people who love Arts.  The government is not alone in supporting Arts, financially. The monetary help from them is an acknowledgement that Arts is a significant sector in this country and all over the world.

Because our leaders should not forget, that above all else, Arts can make your people Happy.

Arts and Basic Ed

Some people think that art is an essential subject for children at school while others think it is the waste of time.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Art is an important aspect of learning. Doing art is considered an exercise of the left side of our brain. It is a subject that is taught not only as a single unit in all levels of education but also included in activities of other subjects. Art though is not considered the basic or most essential subject to learn in a formal school.

Generally, writing, reading and arithmetic are the most essential subjects in school. Supported by history and science. These are the subjects that would enrich the knowledge of children to be able to deliver the necessary skills in doing activities of daily living, interacting with peers and adapting in their community. Learning these subjects would raise them to a higher level of education each year until they graduate and start practicing their chosen profession.

Hence, a lot of theorists mentioned the necessity of inculcating art in school to achieve the highest form of learning: Creating and critical thinking. Art being commonly observed and staged outside school takes most interest in students, therefore we can use art as motivation, inspiration and technique to make learning a memorable and worthwhile experience. Art can open the minds and give varied perspectives to our students, making other subjects easier to comprehend.  Art also hones talents and skills that can go beyond the context of our textbooks. We can use this to discover the talents of students for them to know who they want to be when they grow up and for us to help those dream come into fruitrution. This is what we call belief in multiple intelligence. A belief that everyone can acquire the same basic knowledge, but their individuality would be defined by their own gift.

Language, Math, History and Science are the most essential, because they possess a set of knowledge that has been studied and passed on through generations by educated people who eventually turned into professionals. These are the necessary tools in living and surviving in our society until we reach our hay day. However, arts enrich these subjects and gives room for new learners to learn, explore and discover new knowledge that they can also pass on to the future generations. While essential subjects give us a startup, arts can give us eternity to the road of learning.
