Art is
considered an essential part of all cultures throughout the world. However,
these days fewer and fewer people appreciate art and turn their focus to
science, technology and business.
What could be
done to encourage more people to take interest in arts?
In this fast
phase world, everyone is moving quickly to keep up or to be above the average. We also prioritize. We live
based on the needs that would make us survive in this world. Wants, which is
more personal and somehow, deemed to be unnecessary is often put on hold, like
ARTS.
According to
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, the most basic need that have to be satisfied for
humans are the physiological then next would-be security, love and
belongingness, self-esteem and self-actualization. Physiological needs are the
ones that makes us decide or act every day instinctively. We need shelter, clothes, foods,
clean water and a place with good, air, sunlight and nature to thrive in this world. In order
to achieve this, we need to earn, we need to work. We need to practice our
profession, which in this modern world requires a more than basic knowledge
about science, technology and business. We focus more on these fields because
these are the sectors that includes our human body, our society and the
industries that creates the products that we need to address our physiological
needs. These are the intertwined cycles that should never be stopped or
discontinued in any day of our lives. We need to be healthy and strong; we need
to communicate; we need to always have the things that we discovered,
promulgated and created out of needs. These cycles, most of the time, requires
only the basic. And basic, most of the time, doesn’t include ARTS.
Now, how can we
encourage people to take interest in arts? Include it within their needs, as
possible as they can. Example: A healthy body needs a health mind. Mental
Health. Art can be a form of therapy. It can be through music, dance,
paintings, books or films. They can make you relax and clear your mind, a
booster for the next days of challenges. We can also make use of art as a
breaker to the monotony of our everyday routine. We can also bring natural
elements to our technology through colour, shapes and materials that we call
design. On the choices of clothes that we wear, to the celebration of important
people and events, creation of products, to the building of teams, bonding of
families and establishing livelihoods: inculcate ARTS. Be creative in
execution. Add colour to the black and white of our response to needs.
Art may not be the most important in the ranking of necessities but still, it is the biggest in terms of providing opportunity for us to grow, learn, innovate, discover and create; to enhance our way of living and to find better solutions in all our issues in life.
If somebody ask
you again, tell them, “In everything that you do, do it with style, with
arts. Let yourself be amazed. See and
feel the difference. You might even say “Arts made me achieve the ultimate self-actualization
in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs”
