Many people
think that museums and galleries should only work from local artists rather
than work from other countries. Do you agree?
Travelling is
probably one of the most unforgettable moments in a person’s life. It can be
done locally or internationally. And what is travelling without a visit to a
museum?
Museum is a
place of shelter for valuable art pieces such as paintings, sculptures,
scriptures, artifacts and others. Each museum represents a history of a nation,
an era or a generation, a group of artists or a particular field of knowledge.
Therefore, we visit these places depending on our need, personal interest and
sometimes duty. For example, if you are an art student and you want to see
works of different classic foreign artist you might think of Louvre or
Picasso’s Museum. Varied works with plenty of contributors will widen your
knowledge and enrich your experience as an artist and as a student. If you are
a travelling artist who wants to be known and build network for you to feature
your works and eventually sell them, you might want to visit galleries in malls
and other commercial establishments. It can be with a new local circle where
you can find your identity as an artist or with the foreigners where your works
can have the opportunity to be recognized. If you have a child who is an
aspiring astronaut or scientist, you would probably bring him to a Science
Museum where you can find the origin and the latest discoveries in science with
materials considered as art from your country and other countries like Russia,
China, Germany and others. If you are visiting a new country or a town and wants
to know the culture of the locals, then you might want to go to the their most
known museum of history that would certainly feature local art pieces.
New and local
artists have the right to be acknowledged and discovered in this vast field of
Artistry in their hometown by their own people and by foreign visitors. If they
want to form a circle where the only members are recruited locally, then they
can build a museum intended for their PURPOSE. They need to remember that each
museum has a purpose. And those purposes are often different and varied to
address the wants and needs of the artists as well as the visiting locals and travellers.
There are museums that are purposively intended for foreign art pieces and like
the local artist circle, they are also important and valued.
People travel
for different reasons and it is comforting to know that a museum that will
complete their journey is readily waiting to be discovered.
