Some people
think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this money
could be better spent elsewhere.
To what
extent do you agree with this view?
Art is a
representation of a culture, a group and a nation. Allotting a “reasonable” or
should we say, compassionate, not massive fund for programmes related to it is
considered a responsibility not only of the government but each and everyone in
the society.
There are
different kinds of art. There is visual, performing (spatial), written and
music (auditory) art. Each one tells a story inspired by history, by our
everyday experience and our dreams and aspirations for the future. Art shows
how we dress, how we speak, and how we interact with each other; how a certain
group views beauty, religion, their values, traditions and practices. Art
speaks of how humans work to improve themselves and their way of living. Art
gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and to understand others. It
opens our minds, enriches our knowledge and widens our experience. In art, you
can see growth and a humble look at its simplest start. Art chronicles our
life, our existence and our identity as a nation and as a human being.
Given all the
reasons and definitions expressed above, we can all consider that ART is
a very valuable entity of our culture that we should all preserve and
develop to connect people and generations. Hence, this is one of the top
responsibilities of our government: Ensuring that we continue the practice of
making art and pass it on to our children and our children’s children.
Maybe, it
doesn’t cost much to keep art alive, but it helps if we will also keep hopeful
hearts alive to continue doing art. I guess, this is where more funds would be
required. If not possible, we can add some kindness to give in kind. Challenge to a strong and wise
government: Count how much fund your country has and how much fund you would
invest to Arts. Artists are creative and there are so many people who love
Arts. The government is not alone in
supporting Arts, financially. The monetary help from them is an acknowledgement
that Arts is a significant sector in this country and all over the world.
Because our
leaders should not forget, that above all else, Arts can make your people
Happy.
