Arts and Funds

Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that this money could be better spent elsewhere.

To what extent do you agree with this view?

Art is a representation of a culture, a group and a nation. Allotting a “reasonable” or should we say, compassionate, not massive fund for programmes related to it is considered a responsibility not only of the government but each and everyone in the society.

There are different kinds of art. There is visual, performing (spatial), written and music (auditory) art. Each one tells a story inspired by history, by our everyday experience and our dreams and aspirations for the future. Art shows how we dress, how we speak, and how we interact with each other; how a certain group views beauty, religion, their values, traditions and practices. Art speaks of how humans work to improve themselves and their way of living. Art gives us the opportunity to express ourselves and to understand others. It opens our minds, enriches our knowledge and widens our experience. In art, you can see growth and a humble look at its simplest start. Art chronicles our life, our existence and our identity as a nation and as a human being.

Given all the reasons and definitions expressed above, we can all consider that ART is a very valuable entity of our culture that we should all preserve and develop to connect people and generations. Hence, this is one of the top responsibilities of our government: Ensuring that we continue the practice of making art and pass it on to our children and our children’s children.

Maybe, it doesn’t cost much to keep art alive, but it helps if we will also keep hopeful hearts alive to continue doing art. I guess, this is where more funds would be required. If not possible, we can add some kindness to give in kind. Challenge to a strong and wise government: Count how much fund your country has and how much fund you would invest to Arts. Artists are creative and there are so many people who love Arts.  The government is not alone in supporting Arts, financially. The monetary help from them is an acknowledgement that Arts is a significant sector in this country and all over the world.

Because our leaders should not forget, that above all else, Arts can make your people Happy.

Arts and Basic Ed

Some people think that art is an essential subject for children at school while others think it is the waste of time.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Art is an important aspect of learning. Doing art is considered an exercise of the left side of our brain. It is a subject that is taught not only as a single unit in all levels of education but also included in activities of other subjects. Art though is not considered the basic or most essential subject to learn in a formal school.

Generally, writing, reading and arithmetic are the most essential subjects in school. Supported by history and science. These are the subjects that would enrich the knowledge of children to be able to deliver the necessary skills in doing activities of daily living, interacting with peers and adapting in their community. Learning these subjects would raise them to a higher level of education each year until they graduate and start practicing their chosen profession.

Hence, a lot of theorists mentioned the necessity of inculcating art in school to achieve the highest form of learning: Creating and critical thinking. Art being commonly observed and staged outside school takes most interest in students, therefore we can use art as motivation, inspiration and technique to make learning a memorable and worthwhile experience. Art can open the minds and give varied perspectives to our students, making other subjects easier to comprehend.  Art also hones talents and skills that can go beyond the context of our textbooks. We can use this to discover the talents of students for them to know who they want to be when they grow up and for us to help those dream come into fruitrution. This is what we call belief in multiple intelligence. A belief that everyone can acquire the same basic knowledge, but their individuality would be defined by their own gift.

Language, Math, History and Science are the most essential, because they possess a set of knowledge that has been studied and passed on through generations by educated people who eventually turned into professionals. These are the necessary tools in living and surviving in our society until we reach our hay day. However, arts enrich these subjects and gives room for new learners to learn, explore and discover new knowledge that they can also pass on to the future generations. While essential subjects give us a startup, arts can give us eternity to the road of learning.

Art and Liberalism

Artists need a certain amount of freedom to develop their creativity. Some people think that artists should have total freedom to express any thoughts and ideas.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Art is an infinite world. Artists use art to express themselves. Art as a form of expression with limitless capacity can give anyone a multifaceted freedom that can complement or subjugate an entity. It can make you explore or seclude. It can create or destroy. It can ignite a spark or subdue a fire. It can lead your path or put others astray.

Art like knowledge bears a power that can influence other’s thinking. For some it is a legacy of idea that stays beyond the life of the creator themselves. For others it is an immediate interaction that is waiting for a response or an action that will continue the narrative that the artist had passed.

Bearing these much effect on people entails a responsibility that appeals to humanity. An artist can be selfish. His art is his. He uses it to pour his emotions and intellect. He can ignore the norms. He is unique. He wants to be heard and seen. He wants you to know what he knows. He wants to influence. Influence is power. Introducing your work means having the power to educate and persuade people. As you do a reflection of self-limiting based on your values and emotions, try to include learning the limits of your “would be audience”.

Spiderman said, “With great power comes great responsibility”. An artist should always remember that his talent is a gift, and such gift should be used for the greater good of many people. He is not liable to whatever action others might have after he showed his work, but his intention should always be weighed and should always be good. Need not to be the best, just good as the least. Be a little selfless. Know your audience. Liberal arts should have appropriateness… of age, of place, of culture, of medium and of content. Know that there are people who can understand you and people who don’t. Know your people.

As an artist, you should keep your pride that no matter what interpretation others might think about your work, you are an artist and you are a man of Sense and Sensibility.

I planned to use this blog to share all the materials that I used at work, in the university and in the school where I practiced teaching. Unfortunately, the features of this blog don't support those apps or presentations. Lectures would be similar to my references, so I decided to change my content. I don't want to waste the account.

Let's see, maybe I might be able to arrange all of them in another site. I will post the links here.

I am not saying that my work is the best among contemporaries, but internet is my top source of information when working on a project or report. I know that most people too. So, to give back, I want to share the output of how I processed what I read, watched, heard and learned online.

With the excuse that I mentioned above, I guess, that is still not possible.

*cross-fingers* I hope it will happen soon.

Will read yah!

Arts and Otherelse

Art is considered an essential part of all cultures throughout the world. However, these days fewer and fewer people appreciate art and turn their focus to science, technology and business.

What could be done to encourage more people to take interest in arts?

In this fast phase world, everyone is moving quickly to keep up or to be above the average. We also prioritize. We live based on the needs that would make us survive in this world. Wants, which is more personal and somehow, deemed to be unnecessary is often put on hold, like ARTS.

According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, the most basic need that have to be satisfied for humans are the physiological then next would-be security, love and belongingness, self-esteem and self-actualization. Physiological needs are the ones that makes us decide or act every day instinctively. We need shelter, clothes, foods, clean water and a place with good, air, sunlight and nature to thrive in this world. In order to achieve this, we need to earn, we need to work. We need to practice our profession, which in this modern world requires a more than basic knowledge about science, technology and business. We focus more on these fields because these are the sectors that includes our human body, our society and the industries that creates the products that we need to address our physiological needs. These are the intertwined cycles that should never be stopped or discontinued in any day of our lives. We need to be healthy and strong; we need to communicate; we need to always have the things that we discovered, promulgated and created out of needs. These cycles, most of the time, requires only the basic. And basic, most of the time, doesn’t include ARTS.

Now, how can we encourage people to take interest in arts? Include it within their needs, as possible as they can. Example: A healthy body needs a health mind. Mental Health. Art can be a form of therapy. It can be through music, dance, paintings, books or films. They can make you relax and clear your mind, a booster for the next days of challenges. We can also make use of art as a breaker to the monotony of our everyday routine. We can also bring natural elements to our technology through colour, shapes and materials that we call design. On the choices of clothes that we wear, to the celebration of important people and events, creation of products, to the building of teams, bonding of families and establishing livelihoods: inculcate ARTS. Be creative in execution. Add colour to the black and white of our response to needs.

Art may not be the most important in the ranking of necessities but still, it is the biggest in terms of providing opportunity for us to grow, learn, innovate, discover and create; to enhance our way of living and to find better solutions in all our issues in life.

If somebody ask you again, tell them, “In everything that you do, do it with style, with arts.  Let yourself be amazed. See and feel the difference. You might even say “Arts made me achieve the ultimate self-actualization in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs”

 Hi!

Welcome to my ESSAY blog.

This blog is allotted for all my writing exercise for future plan purposes. (You know or you will know why)

Read but don't be too harsh in judging my content and my grammar. I did not use any grammar checking site. This is purely for self-development purposes. I didn't google the facts. All taken from my poor memory bank. You know the espresso-expresso thing.

Don't be harsh but please, please write a comment for feedback. Tell the mistakes content and grammar wise. Confusing? I mean don't expect. I'm just a regular writer practicing for a could be lifetime swimming Olympic.

Thank you for reading.

Waiting to read yah!
